Leadership
The people who set the standard
Leaders at Big Oil set clear expectations, guide, monitor and shape the behaviours of our people and our world.

Dr Paul Chileshe
Presidential Key Note, Big Oil Trading Company
His story, in his own words
A leader with a Green Agenda
Dr Paul Chileshe opens with the Presidential Key Note, the document that sets out how the company intends to grow, and what it refuses to trade away in the process.
His argument is simple. As the global demand for oil and gas energy rises, there is a need for more players in the industry. But that opportunity arrives with a greater responsibility: protecting the environment and the communities in which these minerals are found. It is why Big Oil carries a Green Agenda policy, a directive to always do right by the environment and the human race.
Under his direction, Big Oil has processes based on industry and proven best practices that lay out the requirements and procedures for achieving higher levels of safety, health and environmental objectives. He is explicit that this cannot be delegated to a department: it requires complete commitment from the entire workforce, partners and all stakeholders, and requires the company to pass it on to the next generation.
His view of leadership is behavioural rather than ceremonial. Leaders at Big Oil set clear expectations, guide, monitor and shape the behaviours of the company’s people and world. By following set procedures, recognising hazards, providing feedback and stopping unnecessary destruction, workers help prevent incidents that are dangerous to the environment.
“Our people and world need to rely on us not only for providing them with the best oil products and jobs, but also for securing their future and that of their world.”
